Smooth Antique Edwardian 18k Gold Buckle Ring

A lovely smooth antique English buckle ring in 18k gold from the Edwardian era. The buckle has been a symbol of eternal love, with a sentiment that the giver and receiver go together like a belt and its buckle. 

Buckle rings (or garter rings as they are also called) came into fashion in the Victorian era. Queen Victoria was a member of the Royal Order of the Garter. The members wear a blue garter buckled on their knee, but Queen Victoria chose to wear hers on her arm instead, launching a garter jewelry fashion trend.

The ring measures as a size 5.75, but fits slightly smaller - closer to a 5.25 or 5.5 -  and could be resized within reason by a trusted jeweler.

CONDITION:
The buckle part has worn a bit from years of being well loved. Instead of being fully domed, the ring tapers into a knife edge shape at the back of the shank, the line of which runs across the top of the ring a little bit in from one side. I'm guessing that at some point it was resized or reshaped - that side of the ring doesn't feel as smooth to me at the edge as the other side. I think that shape gives it a cool dimension, though, regardless of whether or not it was original.
